Big Dangler Baits was an idea that started in the spring/summer of 2024 as I started learning the art of soft plastic bait making. I got into it to use the baits for my own fishing purposes and because it seemed like something fun to do. It is alot of fun to do and I quickly learned I enjoyed making baits as well as giving some baits to family and friends to use. Towards the mid to late summer 2024 I began thinking more about trying to sell some baits to offset some costs of this newfound hobby.
Fast forward to the end of summer/early fall 2024... Still just a thought but not yet a business...Then the opportunity to rent a vendor space at The Clinton Fall Festival presented itself and after some consideration.... we went for it!
With only a short time to build inventory I worked HARD to have a huge selection of non traditional colors as well as some traditional colors before the festival. The festival was plagued with some really high winds and one day of rain and no power, but was a success. The success was watching all the people stop by and enjoy looking at the baits and maybe buying a few. Seeing how excited the young generation was that we had fishing baits at the festival was incredibly rewarding and really inspired us to start building a small business. All baits are made in Clinton, MI. All of our high quality plastisol (bait material) and most of our color pigments, glitters, other additives are actually locally sourced out of Jackson,MI.
I have never strived to grow it to a large company, but more of a small business who caters to fisherman looking for unique colors and such. I wanted some color offerings that were special and you can't walk into big box stores or even fishing specialty shops to get. I have created some cool color combos with the use of color shifting color pigments which appear a different color at different angles and bait thickness. I have also used various powders and additives to achieve some awesome reflective/shimmer effects in some of the color patterns.
